Muttaqi’s Planned Visit to India Cancelled by UNSC
DID Press: The scheduled visit of Amir Khan Muttaqi, the foreign minister of the Taliban’s caretaker government, to India from August 27 to 29 has been cancelled. According to sources, the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) declined to grant a temporary exemption to the existing travel ban on Muttaqi, prompting New Delhi to withdraw its official invitation.

The Security Council continues to exercise caution in granting new travel exemptions for officials of the Taliban’s caretaker government. Previously, Muttaqi’s visit to Pakistan was also thwarted due to similar restrictions.
It is worth noting that since the Taliban’s return to power in August 2021, UN sanctions on many group’s leaders have remained in place as any foreign travel require a special exemption from the Security Council.
