India, Iran Conferred on Chabahar Port Development
DID Press: National security advisors from Iran and India emphasized strengthening bilateral cooperation and developing strategic Chabahar Port during a recent phone call. The port serves as a vital corridor for New Delhi to access Afghanistan and Central Asia and is expected to be the main focus of an upcoming in-person meeting between the two sides.

Indian media reported that discussions covered expanding collaboration in trade, defense, and security, as well as enhancing regional connectivity. A key part of the talks focused on cooperation regarding the Chabahar Port, in which India plays an active role.
Chabahar Port holds particular strategic importance for India, as it provides an alternative and reliable route to Afghanistan. This corridor is complemented by the Zaranj-Dilaram road, built with Indian assistance in Afghanistan, and also offers more direct and efficient access to Central Asia.
The route’s significance is heightened by India’s lack of direct overland access to Afghanistan, making alternative trade and transit channels crucial.
According to reports, Iranian and Indian security officials are expected to meet in person soon to review and finalize bilateral cooperation, particularly regarding the development of Chabahar Port.
