Truckers Threaten Nationawide Strike after 11 Drivers Kidnapped in Pakistan

DID Press: Following abduction of 11 drivers in the Katcha area near Kashmore, Pakistani transporters demanded immediate military intervention, warning that, if the government continues to neglect road security, transportation across the country will come to a halt.

According to a statement from Karachi Goods Carriers Association, armed bandits opened fire on heavy vehicles, damaged several trucks, and took 11 drivers hostage.

The kidnappers also released a video threatening to kill the drivers unless their detained affiliates are released.

Meanwhile, truckers across Pakistan—in cities including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Muzaffargarh, Multan, and Sahiwal—have warned that they will suspend transport operations if the government fails to ensure road security.

The truckers’ association has called on the Pakistani army to launch decisive operations against armed gangs in Katcha and restore security on trade routes.

Security conditions in Pakistan have deteriorated to the point where armed groups can disrupt transportation with near-total impunity.
