Mullah Baradar Visits Kunar, Urges Sanction Relief to Assist Quake Victims

DID Press: Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, Taliban’s deputy prime minister for economic affairs, visited Kunar province following the devastating earthquake and called on the international community to lift sanctions on Afghanistan to facilitate humanitarian assistance.

Leading a delegation, Baradar met survivors of the disaster and expressed condolences to affected families. He stressed that ongoing sanctions pose a major obstacle to delivering aid and urged international organizations and foreign governments to remove restrictions so that assistance can reach those in need more effectively.

Baradar is among the few senior Taliban officials who have traveled to eastern Kunar province in the aftermath of the earthquake, which struck two weeks ago, killing at least 2,000 people, injuring thousands more, and causing widespread destruction.

Notably, Taliban leader Hibatullah Akhundzada has yet to issue any statement or message addressing the victims of the tragedy.
