Khalilzad Arrives in Kabul for Talks with Taliban

DID Press: Former U.S. envoy for Afghanistan Zalmay Khalilzad has made an unannounced trip to Kabul to meet with senior officials of the Taliban’s caretaker government.

According to media reports, the primary purpose of the visit is to secure the release of an American citizen detained by the Taliban in Afghanistan.

Afghanistani affairs journalist Sami Yousafzai wrote on X that a U.S. delegation also traveled to Kabul, requesting Khalilzad to leverage his past ties with the Taliban and underscore the Trump administration’s seriousness in addressing the case.
