Gas Extraction Begins at Toti Maidan Field with $1B Uzbekistan Investment

DID Press: Gas extraction has officially begun at the Toti maidan field in Afghanistan, backed by a $1 billion investment from Uzbekistan—an initiative expected to strengthen the country’s energy sector and enhance regional economic cooperation.

The launch ceremony, held on Sunday in Mazar-i-Sharif city, was attended by senior officials of the caretaker Afghan government and private sector representatives, including Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, Uzbekistan’s Special Envoy to Afghanistan Ismatullah Irgashev, and Acting Minister of Mines and Petroleum Hedayatullah Badri.

Afghanistan Ministry of Mines and Petroleum had previously signed an exploration and extraction contract with an Uzbek company valued at $1 billion.

The Totimidan gas field, part of the Amu Darya oil basin, spans approximately 7,000 square kilometers and represents one of Afghanistan’s significant natural energy resources.

This project is expected to play a key role in the country’s energy and Abdul Ghani Baradar while fostering greater cooperation between Afghanistan and regional countries.
