Direct Crossing for Undocumented Afghanistani Migrants Banned at Dogharoon Border

DID Press: Iran’s Director General of Foreign Nationals and Afghanistani Refugees Affairs in Khorasan Razavi Province announced that from now on, Afghanistani migrants without residence permits must return to their country exclusively through two designated camps in the province, while direct crossing is prohibited at Dogharoon border.

Jafar Sayedabadi, the Director General, said that undocumented Afghanistani migrants will no longer be allowed to go directly to Dogharoon border.

He explained that Hassanabad camp in Shandiz and Safid Sang camp in Fariman have been designated as official centers for organizing and completing the legal procedures for the departure of undocumented Afghanistani nationals. Migrants must first report to these centers and, after completing the legal process, can return to Afghanistan via Dogharoon border.

Sayedabadi emphasized that the decision aims to better organize the return process and establish a legal, safe, and humane pathway. He added that the centers are equipped to facilitate the exit procedures, ensuring migrants can return to Afghanistan in the shortest possible time once legal requirements are completed.

According to official statistics, as of 15 September, over 950,000 undocumented Afghanistan migrants have returned to their country via Dogharoon border.

Under policies aimed at addressing illegal foreign presence, identified Afghanistan migrants in 11 Iranian provinces are, after completing legal procedures, transferred to Afghanistan through three border crossings: Milak (Sistan and Baluchestan), Mahirud (South Khorasan), and Dogharoon (Khorasan Razavi).
