Islamabad Calls for UN Sanctions on Terrorist Groups Operating in Afghanistan
DID Press: Pakistan’s permanent representative to the United Nations has urged the Security Council to take immediate action to curb regional threats posed by terrorist groups active in Afghanistan.

Asim Iftikhar Ahmad expressed concern over the expansion of militant activity in Afghanistan and called for swift measures to address cross-border security risks.
In his speech, he said around 70 propaganda accounts linked to terrorist groups are operating from within Afghanistan, stressing that effective countermeasures require cooperation between governments and social media platforms.
Referring to the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), which he described as “the greatest security threat” to Pakistan, Ahmad noted that the group, with approximately 6,000 fighters, has repeatedly attempted to enter Pakistan from Afghan territory, but Pakistani security forces have successfully repelled these incursions.
He added that Islamabad, with China’s support, has requested that some of these groups be placed on the UN Security Council’s sanctions list and expects the council to act without delay.
Ahmad also addressed human rights concerns in Afghanistan, stating: “The Taliban must honor their international obligations and lift restrictions on women and girls.”
