Britain to Recognize State of Palestine Today

DID Press: UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer is expected to announce (Sunday, September 21) that Britain formally recognize the State of Palestine, according to reports by BBC and Sky News.

On July 29, Starmer’s office had warned that if Israel continued to block humanitarian aid to Gaza Strip and failed to halt its military operations, London would move to recognize Palestine ahead of the UN General Assembly session in September.

Following the escalation of violence in Gaza, UK Foreign Office reiterated its commitment to recognition during September.

Starmer had delayed the formal announcement until the end of this week so that the move would not overshadow the visit of U.S. President Donald Trump to Britain, as Washington does not support London’s position on the issue.

Alongside the UK, several other countries have also declared plans to recognize the State of Palestine.
