Ata Mohammad Noor: Handing Over Bagram to US Means “Selling Our Land”

DID Press: Ata Mohammad Noor, leader of Afghanistan’s Jamiat-e Islami Party, has taken a strong stance in response to discussions about Bagram Air Base and the possibility of handing it over to the United States.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Noor wrote that Afghanistan has always been recognized as a country that resists foreign occupation and domination, but added: “These days, some are racing to sell our land to each other.”

He emphasized that offering Afghanistan territory—whether Bagram, Kabul, or Kandahar—to a foreign power amounts to nothing less than “trading in national honor.”

Noor argued that, despite their “flaws, abuses, and inhumane actions,” the Taliban have at least not been land-sellers. “The countries or actors that have brought our nation to this state are in no position to expect freedom for Afghanistan,” he added.

Referring to the United States directly, Noor said that if Washington is frustrated with its “puppets and client rulers” in Afghanistan, it is due to its inability to achieve regional projects and should acknowledge that “our country does not need foreign presence or occupation.”

He stressed that supplying weapons and removing obstacles for anti-Taliban forces could be sufficient to secure Afghanistan’s future.
