Suwayda Declares Independence; Former Israeli Minister Announces Formation of “Druze State”
DID Press: Ayoub Kara, a Druze politician and former member of the Israeli Knesset, announced the independence of Suwayda from Syria during a conference in Paris, declaring September 21, 2025, as the “historic day of separation” from Damascus. The announcement comes amid rising regional tensions and mounting foreign pressure on southern Syria.

Kara, a former Israeli minister and member of the Knesset, said the province of Suwayda has officially seceded from Syria and will now form an independent Druze state.
“We proclaim September 21, 2025, as the historic day of Suwayda’s separation from Syria and from the terrorist government of Ahmad Al-Shara,” he declared.
This declaration coincides with growing foreign influence and shifting dynamics in southern Syria. According to reports, directives have been imposed on the government of Ahmad Al-Shara, including Israeli control over the southern corridor of Syria—from Quneitra to Suwayda via Daraa—as well as the disarmament of heavy weapons in these areas.
Political analysts warn that Suwayda’s declaration of independence may escalate ethnic and sectarian tensions in Syria and the wider region. It may also significantly impact the security balance between Damascus and Tel Aviv.
