4.9 Magnitude Quake Strikes Eastern Afghanistan

DID Press: An earthquake with a magnitude of 4.9 on the Richter scale has struck eastern Afghanistan at a depth of 120 kilometers.

According to the Indian National Center for Seismology, the earthquake occurred at a depth of 120 km beneath the earth’s surface, with its epicenter located north of Jalalabad city. The tremors were strongly felt in Jalalabad and several surrounding areas.

As of the time of reporting, no casualties or damage have been reported.

Local authorities are currently assessing the situation and evaluating the potential impact of the earthquake. Geologists have noted that deep-focus earthquakes like this one typically result in less surface damage.

Nevertheless, residents in affected areas expressed concern over the sudden and intense shaking, with some people gathering in the streets out of fear of possible aftershocks.
