Qatar Defends Its Key Role in Afghanistan Peace Process

DID Press: At the first ministerial meeting of the OIC Contact Group on Afghanistan, held on the sidelines of the 80th UN General Assembly in New York, Qatar reiterated its support from Afghanistan people and strengthening peace talks, highlighting the country’s critical role in Afghanistan’s peace and development.

Representing Qatar at the UN General Assembly, Mohammed bin Abdulaziz bin Saleh Al-Khalifi stressed the need for cooperation among OIC member states to ensure stability and peace in Afghanistan. He noted that Afghanistan requires international support and effective diplomatic efforts to advance reconstruction and peace process.

Al-Khalifi expressed condolences for victims of recent earthquake and highlighted Qatar’s ongoing commitment to resolving Afghanistan issue through dialogue, including hosting Doha peace process since 2013 under UN supervision.

He underscored Qatar’s readiness to continue diplomatic and humanitarian efforts, strengthen cooperation among OIC countries, and play a more active role in supporting Afghanistan’s progress. He reaffirmed Qatar’s commitment to advancing bilateral and multilateral relations to promote peace, security, and well-being of Afghanistan people.
