EU Appoints New Special Envoy for Afghanistan

DID Press: European Union has appointed French diplomat Gilles Bertrand as its new Special Envoy for Afghanistan, the bloc announced on Thursday.

Bertrand, a veteran EU official with more than 20 years of service, has served as the EU ambassador to Colombia since 2021. In his new role, he will oversee the Union’s engagement with Afghanistan and broader regional issues.
