Drought and Climate Change Push Kabul Toward Severe Water Crisis

DID Press: Increasing drought and climate fluctuations in Afghanistan have left Kabul facing a severe shortage of water resources.

Reports indicate that the city’s groundwater reserves could be completely depleted by 2030, with the impact particularly devastating for low-income neighborhoods.

Many families are forced to spend a portion of their daily income to purchase water, while some children have missed school due to the time spent fetching it.

Moreover, due to inadequate infrastructure and irregular rainfall, even deep wells are struggling to meet the city’s water demand.
