Unidentified Drones Over Kabul Spark Speculation on Possible US Military Return

DID Press: Multiple unidentified drones were seen flying over Afghanistan capital on Saturday morning, fueling speculation about renewed foreign military activity as the Taliban government remains silent and nationwide internet blackouts continue for a second consecutive day.

Residents in northern Kabul said repeated low-altitude drone flights, particularly in the vicinity of Bagram Air Base — the former hub of U.S. and NATO forces during the two-decade war in Afghanistan. Eyewitnesses in Bagrami district of Parwan province described the drone activity as “unprecedented” in both frequency and intensity.

Despite growing public concern, no official statement has been issued by the Taliban regarding the identity or purpose of the drones. The group’s spokesmen have so far declined to respond to journalists’ questions or to address videos circulating on social media.

The sightings come amid a nationwide communications blackout that has disrupted internet and mobile networks across Afghanistan for nearly two days. Analysts suggest such disruptions often accompany covert military or intelligence operations intended to limit public awareness.

Rumors have meanwhile spread online that Bagram base could be handed back to U.S. forces or that joint operations with foreign militaries may be underway — claims that remain unverified by any credible source.

As Afghanistan grapples with information blackouts, media censorship, and mounting uncertainty, the drone flights over Kabul and the Taliban’s silence have intensified speculation about the country’s fragile security environment and potential foreign involvement.
