Taliban: Afghanistan’s Soil Is Not for Sale

DID Press: Following political pressure from former U.S. President Donald Trump to reclaim the Bagram Air Base, the Taliban government has issued a strong response, declaring that Afghanistan’s territory “is not negotiable” and that no part of the country will ever be handed over to a foreign power.

The statement came after Donald Trump, in a post on his social media platform Truth Social, called for the United States to regain control of Bagram Air Base, warning that “bad things will happen” otherwise.

Zabihullah Mujahid, spokesperson for the Taliban’s caretaker government, responded in a statement saying:

“Bagram Air Base is part of Afghanistan’s soil and is no different from any other region of the country. We will never agree to the handover or negotiation of any part of our territory.”

Referring to two decades of U.S. military presence in Afghanistan, Mujahid added:

“During 20 years of occupation, Afghanistan faced bad events every single day. Americans should not forget that bad actions bring bad reactions.”

The Taliban have repeatedly stated that the presence of any foreign military forces in Afghanistan is a red line for their government.

The group’s latest remarks come amid rising tensions between the Taliban and the United States, particularly over regional security and strategic bases.

Despite ongoing diplomatic efforts by some countries to engage with the Taliban, the group’s increasingly defiant tone and rigid stance on national sovereignty have raised concerns about the future of its foreign relations.
