Afghanistani Activists and Political Figures in Germany Urge Unity to Save Country

DID Press: Dozens of Afghanistani political, civil, and cultural figures gathered in Detmold, Germany, to stress the need for national unity, political consensus, and a peaceful solution to Afghanistan’s ongoing crisis.

The meeting, titled “Inter-Afghanistani Dialogue for Peace and Democracy”, was organized by Afghanistan National Coalition Umbrella and included participation from more than 30 political parties, civil society organizations, and social councils.

Representatives from across the political spectrum, as well as civil activists, cultural figures, women, and youth, emphasized that military solutions alone cannot resolve Afghanistan’s crisis. They called for national unity, mutual trust, and collective action toward a democratic future as the only viable path to stabilizing the country.

At the end of the meeting, participants drafted a joint resolution symbolizing their commitment to a united, democratic, and just Afghanistan. The resolution outlined demands including free elections, a peaceful transfer of power, respect for women’s and minority rights, and the establishment of an inclusive political structure.

Since the Taliban’s takeover of Kabul in August 2021, multiple political and military groups have emerged both inside and outside Afghanistan. While fronts such as the National Resistance Front and the Freedom Front continue armed struggle, organizations like Afghan National Coalition Umbrella and the Supreme National Resistance Council are focusing on dialogue and political solutions.

However, these groups face significant challenges, including fragmented leadership, geographic dispersion, and limited international support, which hinder their ability to effectively counter the Taliban.

Participants in Detmold meeting hoped that broader consensus among political and civil actors will create a unified voice for a brighter future in Afghanistan.
