Israel Faces Allegations of Brutality against ‘Sumud Fleet’ Detainees

DID Press: Activists from “Sumud Fleet,” who were detained by Israeli forces during a humanitarian aid mission to Gaza, have reported severe mistreatment, filthy cells, deprivation of food and water, and both psychological and physical torture while in Israeli custody.

The activists, who were arrested while attempting to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza Strip, revealed details of inhumane conditions and abuse in Israeli detention centers.

According to sources close to the detainees, they are being held in unsanitary cells lacking basic hygiene facilities.

Reports indicate that Greta Thunberg, the environmental activist and a member of the convoy, has been confined for an extended period in a cell infested with insects — including lice — and deprived of food and water.

Several detainees have also testified that they were beaten and forced to perform humiliating acts, such as kissing the Israeli flag.

Human rights organizations have expressed deep concern about the detainees’ situation and called for immediate intervention by international and humanitarian bodies to secure their release and investigate the torture allegations.

Unconfirmed reports further suggest that Israeli interrogators have attempted to use the mistreatment to extract false confessions or intelligence information from the detainees.
