Ancient Cave Discovered in Badakhshan Reveals Traces of Zoroastrian Civilization

DID Press: Officials from the Department of Information and Culture in northern Badakhshan province have announced the discovery of an ancient cave believed to be over five centuries old in Khash district of the province.

Mohammad Arif Farooqi, head of culture and arts at the Taliban’s Department of Information and Culture in Badakhshan, said the cave was found in the Kajgardan area when local residents were excavating a hill for construction purposes.

According to him, preliminary studies indicate that the cave is approximately 500 years old and dates back to pre-Islamic era, likely linked to the Zoroastrian period. Clay fragments and stone candle holders were discovered inside, and scientific research is ongoing to determine the exact age and purpose of the site.

Commander Najmuddin, deputy governor of Khash district, said that the cave measures about 14 meters horizontally and 10 meters deep, adding that people can move inside it.

Experts believe this discovery may be one of the most significant archaeological findings in Badakhshan and may play a vital role in understanding the region’s ancient civilizations.
