Oil and Gas Extraction Licenses Granted to Uzbek Firms in Afghanistan

DID Press: Afghanistan Caretaker Government has granted licenses for the exploration and extraction of oil and gas resources to Uzbek companies, reported Uzbekistan’s media.

Uzbek Energy Minister Jhurabek Mirzamahmudov said that the interim government of Afghanistan has permitted Uzbek firms to explore and extract hydrocarbon resources, including oil and gas.

According to the minister, official operations began on September 14 at the Tuti-Maidan gas field in Afghanistan, with an Uzbek company contracted to run the project for a period of 25 years.

Mirzamahmudov noted that this marks only the first phase of the project and that, if successful, extraction operations will expand to additional blocks.

Highlighting the importance of stability in Afghanistan, the minister said, “If peace is established in Afghanistan, its economy and infrastructure will grow, and the country will serve as the shortest route for us to reach the seas.”

He added that the project benefits not only Afghanistan and Uzbekistan but could also accelerate regional development.

Mirzamahmudov also emphasized the role of Afghanistan’s interim government in facilitating regional cooperation and hoped that continued stability will pave the way for broader collaboration between the two nations.
