Kabul Faces Wood and Coal Shortages Ahead of Winter
DID Press: As winter approaches, thousands of families in Kabul are facing growing concerns over heating fuel shortages, with prices for wood and coal soaring and many unable to afford oil or gas.

Many households, particularly those unable to purchase oil or gas, have turned to wood and coal for heating. However, sharply rising prices have worsened an already critical situation.
Residents across Kabul report that wood and coal costs have increased significantly compared to last year, while incomes have remained stagnant or declined. Families fear they will be unable to keep their homes warm during the harsh winter months.
A resident of Kabul’s District 4 said: “Last year, we could buy wood for 3,000 Afghanis, but this year the same amount costs double. Where can we get it?”
The absence of government backed programs and reduced humanitarian aid have further exacerbated the crisis.
Citizens are urging both the Taliban administration and international organizations to provide immediate assistance with fuel and heating supplies for vulnerable families this winter.
