Taliban Enforce Nighttime Internet Blackouts in Kabul

DID Press: Residents of the Afghanistan capital say fiber-optic internet services are being deliberately shut down overnight in several districts of the city, reportedly under instructions from Taliban security authorities seeking to tighten control over digital communications.

Local sources in Kabul told DID Press that high-speed fiber connections have been going offline nightly across multiple areas in recent days. The move, they said, appears to stem from growing pressure by Taliban security institutions on telecommunications companies to restrict online activity after dark.

While Taliban officials have denied issuing any formal order for the nighttime internet shutdowns, several internet service providers privately confirmed facing “intensifying pressure” and “informal restrictions” that have disrupted the stability of their networks.

Kabul residents have voiced deep concern over the outages, warning that continued disruptions could push the capital into what some described as a state of “digital darkness.”

Social media users have also reported widespread slowdowns and connectivity failures during the evening and nighttime hours, fueling frustration among students, professionals, and small businesses that rely on stable internet access for work and communication.
