German Lawmaker Urges for Mediation in Taliban–Pakistan Border Conflict

DID Press: A senior German politician has urged an immediate halt to escalating border clashes between Taliban forces and Pakistan, calling for urgent mediation to prevent the crisis from spiraling further out of control.

Hannah Neumann, a member of the European Parliament, warned that the situation along the Afghanistan–Pakistan border has reached a “dangerous point” and that only swift diplomatic engagement can avert a wider conflict.

In a post on the social platform X, Neumann said both sides must “immediately withdraw, stop attacks, and agree to a mediated dialogue,” adding that lasting stability in the region “cannot be achieved through deterrence, but through understanding shared interests and constructive engagement.”

Tensions between Kabul and Islamabad have intensified in recent weeks following increased activity by Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan provinces. Islamabad accuses the Afghan Taliban of harboring and supporting TTP militants, while Kabul in turn blames Pakistan for backing Islamic State (ISIS-K) elements operating in Afghanistan and the region.
