Afghanistan–India Trade Surpasses $1B, Says Taliban FM

DID Press: Afghanistan’s acting foreign minister, Amir Khan Muttaqi, said that annual trade between Afghanistan and India has exceeded one billion dollars, underscoring what he described as “a promising trajectory” in bilateral economic relations.

Muttaqi made the remarks during a meeting with Afghanistani business representatives at Afghanistan Embassy in New Delhi, where he praised the growing volume of trade despite regional political challenges.

He urged Afghanistan entrepreneurs to intensify efforts to advertise Afghanistan agricultural products in Indian and regional markets, emphasizing the need to strengthen export capacity and diversify trade links.

Addressing broader regional issues, the Taliban foreign minister also condemned what he called continued violations of Afghanistan’s airspace and territorial sovereignty by Pakistan, stressing that Afghanistan people will remain “united and determined in defending their independence.”

Despite ongoing political complexities in South Asia, economic exchanges between Kabul and New Delhi have continued to expand. India has relied increasingly on Iran’s Chabahar Port as a key corridor for trade with Afghanistan, bypassing traditional routes through Pakistan.
