Taliban Industry Minister Seeks Chinese Investment, Technology Transfer

DID Press: Nooruddin Azizi, the Taliban’s acting Minister of Industry and Commerce, visited several advanced industrial, infrastructure, and technology projects in China, emphasizing Afghanistan’s readiness to attract foreign investment and expand industrial cooperation.

Azizi made the visit to China’s Hainan Province as part of his participation in the 11th Annual Congress of the World Free Zones Organization, held from October 10–12 under the theme “Gateways to Global Prosperity, Trade, and Sustainable Innovation.”

During his tour, the Taliban minister met with senior executives from major Chinese companies and highlighted Afghanistan’s investment opportunities in manufacturing, energy, mining, and infrastructure. He urged Chinese firms to engage in joint ventures and facilitate the transfer of technology to strengthen Afghanistan’s industrial base.

“Afghanistan is ready to cooperate with international partners to boost production capacity and build sustainable infrastructure,” Azizi said during the visit.

The three-day conference focused on the role of free trade zones in global economic development, cross-border collaboration, and innovation-driven trade.

Azizi’s visit and calls for investment come amid the Taliban administration’s broader efforts to revive Afghanistan’s economy through regional partnerships, particularly with China, which has maintained steady engagement with Kabul since 2021.
