48-Hour Ceasefire Between Taliban and Pakistan Brokered by Qatar

DID Press: Pakistan’s Dawn newspaper has reported that, following several days of cross-border clashes, a 48-hour ceasefire has been reached between the Taliban government and Pakistan’s military through Qatari mediation.

According to Dawn, Pakistani diplomatic sources confirmed that intensive negotiations between Taliban representatives and Pakistani officials in Doha, facilitated by the Government of Qatar, resulted in a temporary agreement to halt hostilities along the Kandahar–Balochistan border.

The ceasefire, which came into effect early Thursday morning, includes a complete cessation of fire, a halt to troop movements, and the partial reopening of border crossings to allow civilian passage.

Sources close to the Taliban administration also confirmed the agreement, saying that both sides have committed to discussing the creation of a “joint border security mechanism” during the 48-hour truce.

The recent clashes between Taliban and Pakistani forces have left dozens dead and wounded over the past week, driving bilateral relations to their lowest point since the Taliban’s return to power in 2021.
