Imran Khan Seeking ‘Parole’ to Mediate Pakistan–Afghanistan Tensions

DID Press: Pakistan’s jailed former PM Imran Khan has requested to be released on parole to help resolve rising tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan, his sister Noreen Khan said on Thursday.

Noreen Khan told local media that her brother made the request during a visit to Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, saying he was “deeply hurt” by recent border clashes and believes dialogue is the only path to peace.

Pakistan and Afghanistan agreed to a 48-hour ceasefire along their border starting Wednesday evening, according to Pakistan Foreign Ministry. Defence Minister Khawaja Asif described the truce as “fragile,” warning that Islamabad reserves the right to respond to any new attacks.

Asif accused the Afghan Taliban of showing little interest in peace but said Pakistan remains committed to stability. He also said countries such as the United States and Saudi Arabia can help mediate, adding that “Donald Trump has ended wars before; we will welcome his help to end this one.”

Border tensions have recently intensified following Pakistani airstrikes inside Afghanistan and the mass expulsion of Afghanistani nationals from Pakistan.

Noreen Khan said Imran was “concerned about the treatment of Afghanistani migrants in Pakistan” and urged humanitarian dialogue to ease the crisis.
