Russia and China to Strengthen Security Cooperation on Afghanistan and Asia-Pacific

DID Press: Russian Foreign Ministry announced plans to increase security coordination with China across the Asia-Pacific and Central Asia, with particular focus on developments in Afghanistan.

In a statement issued following a meeting of the Russian Foreign Ministry’s delegation on international cooperation with China, the ministry said: “It is necessary to strengthen coordination with China on regional issues, including security in the Asia-Pacific and Central Asia, the situation surrounding Afghanistan, and the development of relations with African countries.”

The ministry added that both countries emphasize developing joint approaches on global issues, including artificial intelligence, climate change, and the democratization of international institutions.

Russia also affirmed its commitment to close collaboration with China in multilateral forums such as the United Nations, the UN Security Council, Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), BRICS, ASEAN, and the G20.

“Russia and China advocate consolidating the efforts of countries in the Global South and East and help strengthening their role and voting rights in global governance mechanisms,” said the statement.

Despite unilateral sanctions and illegal restrictions imposed by the West, the ministry noted that practical cooperation between Moscow and Beijing is expanding.

“The delegation highlighted the close strategic coordination between Moscow and Beijing on international and regional matters and underscored the important role of both countries in establishing a fair and stable multipolar order.”

According to the ministry, the unique nature of relations with China and the alignment of perspectives on international and regional issues enable both countries to forge an effective diplomatic partnership, allowing them to pursue independent and balanced foreign policies, particularly regarding Afghanistan and stability in Central Asia.
