Kabul University Professor Killed in Armed Home Invasion

DID Press: Local sources in Kabul reported that Ramez Pishtaz, a professor at Kabul University, was killed late Saturday, November 1, after armed assailants broke into his home and shot him dead.

Witnesses say the attackers fled the scene immediately after the shooting. No group or individual has claimed responsibility, and the motive behind the killing remains unclear.

This incident marks the second similar crime in recent weeks. Earlier, a young man was killed in a separate armed robbery in Takhar province.

Residents of Kabul have increasingly voiced concerns over growing nighttime robberies, armed assaults, and kidnappings in the city. This wave of crime contrasts sharply with repeated claims by Taliban authorities that they have restored “lasting and complete security” across the country.

Security analysts say the surge in violence highlights structural weaknesses in the Taliban’s security apparatus and reflects broader social and economic pressures in Afghanistan — factors that are further eroding public trust in current authorities.
