Palestinians Call for Urgent Action Over Torture in Israeli Prisons

DID Press: Palestinian officials, warning about torture, medical neglect, and extrajudicial killings of prisoners, have called on the international community to take urgent action to stop the crimes of the Israeli regime. They stressed that international silence only leads to increased human rights violations.

Palestinian officials, including Mahmoud Mardawi, a senior Hamas leader, issued a statement urging the international community to intervene to stop Israeli crimes against Palestinian detainees. The statement describes the actions of the Israeli regime, under the influence of extremist minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, as war crimes and crimes against humanity.

According to reports, Palestinian prisoners are subjected to arbitrary detention, torture, deprivation of basic necessities, deliberate medical negligence, collective punishment, and slow death. Officials also condemned Israel’s continued obstruction of visits by Red Cross representatives and the prevention of family visits, calling it a clear violation of international law and the Geneva Conventions.

Dr. Ahmad Al-Farrah, head of Nasser Hospital in the Gaza Strip, emphasized that severe torture inflicted on Palestinian detainees has made identifying their bodies difficult or even impossible. He stated that some bodies were dismembered, others stuffed with cotton, and signs of torture with heated metal rods were observed on others.

Palestinian authorities warned that the silence of the international community only encourages Israel to continue these crimes, and they called for immediate accountability and punishment of those responsible.
