Chabahar–Zahedan Railway to Be Operational within 9 Months
DID Press: CEO of Iran Railways has announced that the Chabahar–Zahedan railway line will be completed within six months and will become operational within nine months.

Jabbar Ali Zakeri, CEO of Iran Railways, said the project, one of Iran’s strategic initiatives, will play a key role in developing the North–South international corridor and facilitating trade among India, Russia, and Afghanistan.
Speaking on Wednesday, November 5, during a meeting with India’s Ambassador to Tehran, Rudra Gaurav Shrest, Zakeri emphasized the importance of Chabahar Port in boosting regional trade and its pivotal role in connecting South Asia with Central Asia.
“The Chabahar–Zahedan railway project will be completed within six months and enter operational phase three months later. Without rail access, Chabahar Port cannot reach its full potential,” Zakeri said.
“Once operational, this route will facilitate the transport of goods between India and Russia through Iran and shorten transit routes for Afghanistan. We are also exploring a direct rail connection between Afghanistan and India via Chabahar, which could significantly reduce transportation time and costs,” he added.
The Indian ambassador praised Iran’s railway cooperation and stressed that the completion of this route will be a major economic achievement not only for Iran but for the entire region.
