US-Led Center Takes Over Control of Gaza Ceasefire from Israel

DID Press: Washington Post reported that oversight of the Gaza ceasefire has been transferred from Israeli leadership to a newly established coordination center led by the United States.

According to the report, the U.S. military-led coordination center — tasked with implementing President Donald Trump’s Gaza peace plan — has replaced Israel as the main authority supervising the delivery of humanitarian aid to the enclave. Sources familiar with the matter described the start of the center’s operations as “chaotic.”

A U.S. official said the transition, completed on Friday, means that “Israelis are still part of the discussions, but final decision-making now rests with a broader body.”

More than 40 countries and international organizations are represented in the coordination center. Tim Hawkins, spokesperson for the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), told The Washington Post:

“One of the advantages of bringing all these parties together is the ability to separate facts from claims and achieve a clearer understanding of on-the-ground conditions and real humanitarian needs.”

The development comes as Israel and the Palestinian group Hamas have resumed indirect negotiations since October 6, mediated by Egypt, Qatar, the U.S., and Turkey. On October 9, both sides signed an agreement to implement the first phase of the U.S. president’s ceasefire plan, which went into effect on October 10.

However, Israel has repeatedly violated the ceasefire under various pretexts, resulting in the deaths of dozens of Palestinians and injuries to hundreds more.
