Putin Signals New Russian Weapon amid Air Defense Build-Up

DID Press: Concluding his visit to Tajikistan, Russian President Vladimir Putin revealed that a new weapon is in the final stages of testing and highlighted that the development of Russia’s air defense systems is a direct response to the potential deployment of Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine.

In a press conference at the end of his Tajikistan trip, Putin said: “I believe we will soon have the opportunity to provide information about the weapon we have previously mentioned. It is currently in the testing phase, and the trials are proceeding successfully.”

“Russia is actively developing its deterrence capabilities and strengthening national security,” Putin added, emphasizing the high level of innovation in Russia’s nuclear deterrent systems.

He also referenced the potential extension of the New START Treaty between Russia and the United States, noting that discussions are ongoing. Putin stressed that even if Washington chooses not to extend the treaty, Russia’s security would remain fully guaranteed: “If goodwill exists, extension is possible, but even otherwise, Russia’s security is completely assured.”

Regarding air defense, Putin characterized the strengthening of Russia’s systems as a direct reaction to the possible deployment of Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine: “Our response to such actions will only be the reinforcement of the Russian Federation’s air defense.”

Additionally, in response to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s remarks on Donald Trump’s Nobel Peace Prize nomination, Putin criticized the credibility of the Nobel Committee in recent years: “The Nobel Peace Prize has repeatedly been awarded to individuals who have done nothing for peace. Such decisions have undermined the credibility of this award.”
