Taliban Detains Female Surgeon in Herat for Not Wearing Burqa

DID Press: In one of the latest restrictions imposed by the Taliban on women, Shabnam Fazli, a general surgery specialist at Herat Hospital, was detained for not wearing a burqa.

Local sources reported that Fazli was arrested on Monday, November 10, at the entrance of Herat Hospital. Her husband, Qudus Khatibi, confirmed the arrest and said the reason was her lack of burqa coverage.

Reports indicate that many women have been denied access to medical services due to similar requirements. The Taliban recently barred women without burqas from entering government offices in Herat and instructed all female teachers to wear burqas in classrooms.

These measures have raised widespread concern among citizens and highlight increasing pressure on women in Herat and other parts of Afghanistan.
