Pakistan Army Foils Terrorist Attack on Military Cadet School in Waziristan

DID Press: Pakistan’s army said on Monday it foiled a terrorist attack on the Cadet College Wana in South Waziristan after security forces swiftly responded, killing two assailants during an exchange of fire.

According to Dawn newspaper, the attack took place on Monday morning when several militants attempted to infiltrate the school’s perimeter. They were detected by security personnel, who engaged them before they could reach the main compound.

The attackers then detonated a vehicle packed with explosives at the main gate, damaging the entrance and nearby structures. After breaching the compound, they took positions in the school’s administrative block, where they were surrounded and killed by responding forces.

The Pakistan Army said the attackers were linked to “India-backed terrorist groups” and affiliated with Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). During the assault, they reportedly maintained contact with their commanders based in Afghanistan.

Military officials described the incident as evidence of a “clear contradiction between the Taliban government’s claims of denying safe haven to terrorists and the situation on the ground.”

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif strongly condemned the attack, praising the “alertness and courage” of the security forces who prevented another tragedy. “Once again, enemies targeted our educational institutions but failed due to the resolve of our forces,” he said.

Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi also commended the military’s quick response, saying it averted a “major catastrophe.”

Separately, the army reported killing at least 20 militants in separate operations in North Waziristan and Darra Adam Khel.

Pakistan has witnessed a sharp rise in militant attacks over the past year, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan provinces. Islamabad has repeatedly accused Afghanistan’s Taliban government of sheltering TTP fighters and allowing them to launch cross-border attacks — allegations Kabul denies.
