Poll: Half of Afghans Support Reducing Trade with Pakistan

DID Press: A recent poll conducted by DID Press Agency shows that Afghanistan citizens have mixed views on the Taliban government’s decision to reduce trade relations with Pakistan, though opinions lean toward seeing positive effects on self-sufficiency and reduced dependency.

According to the survey, 50 percent of respondents believe the decision could have a positive impact, strengthening Afghanistan’s economic self-reliance.

In contrast, 17 percent said that lower trade levels with Pakistan could lead to higher prices and increased pressure on domestic markets. Another 25 percent noted that the move might negatively affect imports and exports in the short term, while 8 percent suggested it could cause fluctuations and instability in the local market.

Overall, the results indicate that while some Afghans anticipate potential drawbacks, the majority view reduced reliance on Pakistan and a shift toward domestic production as an economic opportunity for the country.
