Tashkent, Kabul Sign 2026 Power Supply Contract

DID Press: Uzbekistan signed an agreement to supply electricity to Afghanistan in 2026, according to the country’s Ministry of Energy. The deal aims to guarantee a stable flow of power to Afghanistan while strengthening economic cooperation between the two neighbors.

The agreement was reached during talks in Tashkent between Energy Minister Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov and a Taliban delegation led by Abdul Bari Omar, head of Afghanistan’s state electricity company, DABS.

Both sides underscored the significance of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev’s regional initiatives, outlined at the UN General Assembly and a summit of Central Asian leaders, which call for supporting Afghanistan’s economy and improving living conditions.

Officials also reviewed ongoing energy projects, including high-voltage transmission lines and substations inside Afghanistan, stressing the need to speed up construction.

Uzbekistan remains a key electricity supplier to Afghanistan, and the new deal is seen as essential for ensuring consistent power delivery next year.
