US Pressuring Ukraine: Accept Trump Peace Plan or Lose Aid

DID Press: Reuters-based reports indicate that the United States has given Ukraine a Thursday deadline to accept a comprehensive and contentious peace proposal, warning that Washington will cut off intelligence and military assistance if Kyiv refuses the proposal. The plan includes major concessions to Russia and places President Volodymyr Zelensky under intense pressure as the war approaches its third year.

According to sources cited by Reuters, Trump administration has delivered a 28-point peace framework to Kyiv and is urging rapid approval. U.S. officials have reportedly warned that failure to accept the plan by Thursday will result in an immediate halt to US military and intelligence support.

The proposal includes several key Russian demands: Ukraine would cede additional territory; its military capabilities would be restricted; and it would be barred from joining NATO. The plan would also formalize Russian control over Luhansk, Donetsk and Crimea, and establish a demilitarized zone between current front lines and the Donetsk border.

After receiving the proposal, Zelensky contacted leaders of the U.K., Germany and France to gauge the European response. He has been careful not to publicly reject the U.S. plan. In his initial reaction, Zelensky said: “We appreciate the efforts of the United States and President Trump to end this war. Any plan must guarantee real and honorable peace.”

Russian President Vladimir Putin has said the Trump proposal was discussed prior to the upcoming Alaska meeting between the two countries, adding that Moscow—despite reservations—agreed to parts of it.

In a video address to Ukrainians, Zelensky warned that the country faces “extremely difficult choices”: preserving national dignity and territorial integrity, or risking the loss of support from one of its most critical allies. He noted that even “the strongest metals can break under pressure” and said his government would seek amendments to the U.S. plan to safeguard Ukraine’s sovereignty.

The diplomatic pressure places Kyiv at one of the most sensitive turning points of the three-year war with Russia—where any decision could reshape the conflict and alter the balance of power in Europe
