Regional Security, Stability Conference Held in Tashkent

DID Press: An international conference titled “Regionalism and Stability: Ensuring Security in Central Asia Amid Global Changes” was held yesterday in Tashkent. The event was organized by the Uzbekistan Military Security and Defense University in collaboration with the OSCE Project Coordinator in Uzbekistan.

The conference brought together government officials, international organizations, diplomatic delegations, and academics to examine various dimensions of regional security.

Antti Karttunen, OSCE Ambassador and Project Coordinator in Uzbekistan, highlighted in his opening remarks that contemporary security challenges require a multi-layered understanding. He stated: “Security is not limited to military capacity; it also encompasses effective state institutions, sustainable economic growth, environmental resilience, rule of law, and human welfare. True security emerges in a society where public trust and active cooperation with neighboring countries are strengthened simultaneously.”

Karttunen emphasized that the OSCE’s multidimensional approach—including political-military, economic-environmental, and human dimensions—provides a strong foundation for coordinated efforts and enhanced stability in the region.

Participants discussed topics such as the development of regional cooperation mechanisms, strengthening resilience against cyber threats, combating transnational organized crime, the impact of climate change on security, and building trust and interaction between governmental institutions and society.

The conference offered a platform for sharing experiences, presenting research findings, and formulating recommendations aimed at enhancing regional security amid evolving global challenges.
