Larijani: Iran, Pakistan Play Key Role in Regional Stability

DID press: Iran’s Secretary of the SNSC is set to arrive in Pakistan today for meetings with the country’s political and security leadership—a visit Tehran describes as part of efforts to deepen the two countries’ strategic partnership.

Ali Larijani, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, will travel to Pakistan on Monday to hold talks with senior officials on security cooperation, bilateral relations and regional developments.

Ahead of his departure for Islamabad, Larijani said in a statement that relations between Iran and Pakistan have been built on trust and friendship over the years, and that the two nations play an “essential role” in ensuring regional stability and security.

He also referred to the support shown by the people of Pakistan during the 12-day war waged by the Zionist regime and the United States against Iran, emphasizing: “Iranians will never forget the solidarity and steadfastness of the Pakistani nation.”

Larijani added that the Islamic Republic of Iran views fraternal cooperation with regional countries as strategic and necessary, and is seeking to further expand political, security and economic ties with Pakistan.

During his visit, Larijani is scheduled to meet senior Pakistani officials to discuss issues of mutual interest, particularly border security, the regional situation, and avenues for strengthening bilateral cooperation.
