UNAMA: Children Primary Victims of Pakistan Strikes in Eastern Afghanistan
DID Press: UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) reported that at least 10 civilians—mostly children—were killed in Pakistan’s midnight airstrikes on Khost and Kunar provinces. The UN body has called for the immediate application of international humanitarian law to ensure the protection of civilians.

In its latest update, UNAMA expressed alarm over the rising number of civilian casualties resulting from Pakistan’s air operations in eastern Afghanistan. According to the mission, the strikes in Khost and Kunar left at least 10 civilians dead and six others wounded.
UNAMA said most of those killed were children—a fact that not only heightens the human and moral dimensions of the incident but also reinforces the need for a thorough investigation and accountability from Pakistan. The UN stressed that all military actors are obligated to uphold international humanitarian law during any operation and must prevent harm to civilians, especially children.
The report comes amid growing concerns over escalating cross-border and aerial attacks in eastern Afghanistan and the increasing likelihood of similar incidents. Reiterating that the protection of civilians is the foremost responsibility of all parties involved, UNAMA urged them to strengthen monitoring and precautionary mechanisms and adhere to principles of transparency and accountability.
