Afghanistan Calls for Hosting Next ECO Summit in Kabul

DID Press: Nooruddin Azizi, acting Minister of Industry and Trade of Afghanistan, announced that Afghanistan is ready to host the next summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO) and highlighted the country’s strategic role in regional trade.

During the ECO Ministers’ meeting, the Minister emphasized the importance of the organization for promoting regional economic cooperation, saying that Afghanistan’s strategic location enables it to play a key role in enhancing trade and investment in the region.

He also held talks with Turkey’s Minister of Trade on the sidelines of the summit, discussing ways to increase trade cooperation and investment opportunities between the two countries.

The ECO Ministers’ meeting focused on expanding regional trade, joint projects, and strengthening economic collaboration. Several key documents were approved during the meeting, including amendments to trade agreements, trade facilitation measures, a free trade framework among member states, and the “ECO Ten-Year Development Vision” for 2026–2035.

These decisions reflect the member countries’ commitment to boosting economic cooperation and trade development in the region, while hosting the summit in Afghanistan could provide a significant opportunity to strengthen the country’s role in regional economic affairs.
