Germany Restricts Taliban Access to Afghanistan Consulate in Bonn
DID Press: German government officially limited Taliban officials’ access to Afghanistan’s consulate in Bonn. According to a German newspaper citing official sources, the consulate’s operations continue to be overseen by Abdul Baqi Popal, the acting head of the Afghanistan embassy in Berlin.

Germany has not recognized the Taliban government, and all official diplomatic activities of Afghanistan’s consulates and embassy in the country remain under the management of diplomats from the previous Afghan administration.
This decision underscores Germany’s stance of not recognizing the Taliban as the legitimate government of Afghanistan, while maintaining official relations with officials from the pre-Taliban administration.
The move also ensures that Afghanistan’s diplomatic missions in Germany continue to operate under the authority of experienced diplomats, maintaining continuity in consular services and international representation.
This development comes amid broader international concerns regarding the legitimacy and recognition of the Taliban government and its representatives abroad.
