Ex-Pakistani Envoy Warns Taliban–India Ties Threaten Group’s Survival

DID Press: Former Pakistani representative on Afghanistan affairs, Asif Durrani, warned on X that growing relations between the Taliban and India pose a serious threat to the group’s survival.

Referring to recent visits by Taliban officials to India, including Acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi and Acting Minister of Industry and Commerce Nooruddin Azizi, Durrani said such engagement could bring significant risks to the Taliban.

Amid rising tensions between Pakistan and the Taliban, the group’s outreach to India marks a new phase in regional relations. “India engages with the Taliban not out of interest in Afghanistan, but to leverage Afghanistan territory against Pakistan. This scenario could seriously endanger the Taliban’s survival. We hope they avoid this dangerous path,” Durrani added.

The visits come as Taliban–Pakistan relations have sharply deteriorated, with the countries’ borders repeatedly closed.
