UNESCO, EU Launch Literacy and Livelihood Program in Afghanistan
DID Press: EU, in partnership with UNESCO, launched a new initiative worth €4.7 million aimed at enhancing literacy and economic resilience in Afghanistan.

The program will provide basic literacy, numeracy, and livelihood training — including tailoring, poultry farming, and agriculture — to 7,500 youth and adults, with a focus on returning migrants, across five provinces.
EU and UNESCO officials said the initiative seeks to improve Afghan families’ well-being, promote self-reliance, and strengthen community economic capacity.
This program builds on UNESCO’s efforts since 2023, which have already provided educational opportunities for more than 56,000 individuals across the country.
