Taliban, Pakistan Halt Border Clashes in Spin Boldak
DID Press: Heavy fighting between Taliban forces and Pakistani border guards at the strategic Spin Boldak crossing has been temporarily halted following a call and request from Islamabad. Meanwhile, Taliban officials accuse Pakistan of repeatedly violating the ceasefire and launching night-time attacks.

Local sources in Kandahar province said that the border clashes in Spin Boldak district have subsided after Pakistani officials contacted Taliban authorities and requested a pause in the exchange of fire. The border tension escalated last night after what the Taliban government described as “repeated ceasefire violations” by Pakistani forces.
According to officials of the Taliban Border Police, Pakistani forces broke the ceasefire by using a hand grenade, which triggered the confrontation. Abidullah Farooqi, spokesperson for the Taliban Border Police, stated that Afghan forces responded by “targeting the opposite side in a reciprocal manner.”
Local sources in Spin Boldak also confirmed that the exchange of fire continued for hours and that both sides used light and heavy weapons. Zabihullah Mujahid, spokesperson for the Taliban government, wrote in several posts on X that Pakistani forces opened fire on Taliban positions from inside Pakistani territory on Friday evening, forcing Taliban units to respond.
Following the escalation, Taliban reinforcements were deployed from Kandahar city toward the border area to support units stationed in Spin Boldak.
Severe border tensions along the Kandahar–Pakistan line have erupted multiple times in recent months, and this latest round of clashes has once again left the security situation at this critical crossing highly fragile.
