Germany Urges Israel to Halt West Bank Annexation Plans

DID Press: During a visit to Jordan, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz called on Israel to refrain from any actions that may lead to the annexation of the West Bank.

“We must keep the path to a Palestinian state open. Therefore, no action should be taken toward the annexation of the West Bank, whether formally or politically. This includes construction or other measures that would effectively result in the annexation of the territory,” underlined Chancellor’s office in a statement, citing Merz.

Chancellor Merz also reaffirmed Germany’s commitment to resolving the Middle East conflict based on a two-state solution for Israel and Palestine.

Merkel’s remarks come amid growing international concern over Israel’s expansion and construction plans in disputed West Bank areas.
