DID Press: A group of military officers in Benin has seized power and removed President Patrice Talon from office.

According to La Nouvelle Tribune, a body calling itself the “Military Committee for the Restoration of Order” has now taken full control of the country. The committee is led by Major General Pascal Tigri. The military has also announced the dissolution of all state institutions.
Reports indicate that the whereabouts of President Talon remain unknown, and no official response has yet been issued by his close associates.
The coup comes as Benin was preparing for its 12 April 2026 presidential election—an event now shrouded in uncertainty.
State television in Benin has said that further details will be released in the coming hours.
