DID Press: Former EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell criticized the Trump administration’s approach to Europe, describing it as a “political war” against the EU.
Referring to recent comments by U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance in Munich, Borrell said Trump had elevated his contempt for Europe “to the level of a national security strategy.”
“This is a declaration of political war against the European Union,” Borrell said, adding that Trump seeks a fragmented Europe, divided into nations obedient to his domestic political priorities.
Borrell warned that European leaders’ silence on such statements is dangerous. “Europe must stop pretending that Trump is not an adversary and assert its technological, security, and political sovereignty with clarity and strength,” he said.
